Bodycam: Beginners’ Guide – KosGuides (2024)

This guide is meant to explain how the game functions and how to play it, due to the game not explaining itself well.

Why This Guide?

I really like this game and I see a lot of people hating on it because they don’t understand it, so I hope this guide can help newer players not give up on this game as quickly.
Note: This is not a complete guide, but it is a guide for complete beginner, I won’t say every detail but the goal is to give the idea of what is going on so you can hop into the game.
I am a new player myself, but no one else has made a beginners guide, so this is just for basics.

What is The Menu?

When you open up the game you are given a few menu options:

Quit:Leaves the game.

Settings:It’s settings, what did you expect.

Lobby:Shows the players currently in your lobby, also gives you the option to switch teams, change your lobby to private and change the lobby name. (From the main menu you can click on a person from your friends list to invite them to your lobby)

Rank:(When in the “My Rank” tab) Shows you your ranking compared to others. (In the “Top
Reissad” tab) you can also see the top ranked players. (In the “Friends” tab) Your ranking compared to your friends.

Locker:The Locker has two tabs: “Shop” and “Locker”, the shop has cosmetics purchasable with R (the currency in the game, which is earned my playing matches), your current R is the bottom right corner. The Locker tab allows you to equip cosmetic you have already purchased.

NOT READY:Clicking on “Not Ready” ready’s you up, opening up the game selection menu:

Game Selection Menu:

Host Map: Starts a game with your current lobby (If your lobby is public, people can join while you play), it will ask you what game mode you wish to play then ask what map.

Join Server:Opens a server browser, this is where you will join most of your games in Bodycam. Each server has these listings (from left to right): In redish/pinkish text will say something such as “Rookie” or “General” or something else, this is what rank the creator of the server is. In purple is the game mode. In yellow is the map. In red is the version number. In pink is the country of host. And on the far right is your ping to that server. Clicking on one will join you and your server to that game.

Quickplay:Auto joins a server for you and whoever is in your lobby. (Is quite bugged currently and just doesn’t work sometimes)

Simple Controls and Default Keybinds

(The important controls. See the Setting menu in game for more detail)
WASD:Move forward/back/left/right.
Space:Jump/Vault.
Mouse1:Fire gun/interact with held item.
Mouse2:Aim down sights.
Shift:Run.
ALT:Jog.
CTRL/Shift:Crouch
Q:Lean left.
E:Lean right. Pickup if looking at a bomb or gun.
G:Drop held object.
R:Reload.
F:Flashlight.
V:Push to Talk.
Scroll Wheel:Switch Weapons.

Why Does the Guy I’m Playing as Move Their Gun Like That?

The game takes place though a bodycam point of view. If you were holding a gun you are naturally going to want to move your head and gun first before moving your body. It’s for “Realism” and to encourage a slower paced “Tactical” gameplay.
(Alternatively they might be trying to replicate the feeling of Wii FPS games, but that is unconfirmed)

Game Modes: What is the Goal?

So, what game modes are in the game?

Body Bomb

This is the more “Tactical” game mode. It works similar to Counter-Strike, one team is the “Terrorists” and the other is the “Counter-Terrorists”.

The Terrorists spawn with a bomb (the player holding the bomb at start is random), if holding the bomb you can arm it by holding Mouse1, then you can continue holding it or drop it with G. After a set amount of time the bomb will explode, giving the Terrorists the victory (They can also win by killing the other team)

The Counter-Terrorists goal is to track down the bomb the Terrorists have and defuse it (If it is armed) by picking it up and holding Mouse1. Alternatively they can just kill the entire other team, but if the bomb is about to explode it would be wise to just defuse it.

The bomb whether armed or not will blink a light and beep, signaling its location, the faster the beeping the closer it is to exploding.

A round is one set of the above ^. First team to 10 round victories wins the match.

Teams: Team game.
Goal: To explode/defuse bomb OR kill other team.

Team Deathmatch (TDM)

One of the easiest to understand modes in the game, you and your team spawn in with the goal of killing the opposing team before they kill you.
A round ends when everyone on one team dies or when the time runs out.
First team to 10 round victories wins the game.

Teams: Team game
Goal: Kill opposing team

Deathmatch (FFA)

The classic free-for-all, every man for himself. There are no “Rounds”, the game lasts until someone reaches a certain number of kills.

Teams: None
Goal: Kill all other players

Gun Game

It’s a free-for-all gamemode, but everyone starts with a pistol, and every couple kills your gun changes to another gun. Cycle through all the guns to win.

Teams: None
Goal: Cycle through all the guns by killing other players.

What Happens After I Die?

While this game has no afterlife, things do still happen on death.

Death in Team Modes

There are two phases of death when playing a team mode (Such as Body Bomb or TDM). The first phase is the drone phase.

Drone: When you die you become a drone, using Space to fly up and CTRL to fly down you are free to explore the map. In addition to that you also can use Mouse1 to cycle to nightvision, and press F to use a flashlight (Which you can use to try to communicate with alive players). All players can see you flying around and can shoot you out of the air if they wish. Careful about flying too fast, because running into a wall at speed will also end you. After you are shot or fall you go to the spectator phase.

Spectator: You can look through the eyes of your teammates, pressing Mouse2 cycles between them if multiple are still alive.

Death in Free-For-All Modes

You will respawn immediately.

Some Random Basic Strategy Stuff: AKA: How Live Longer (Sometimes)

– This is not Call of Duty, this is meant to be a realistic feeling tactical game, slow and steady is the way to go, don’t go running guns-blazing if you don’t know how to shoot well.
– Running aimlessly will get you killed. Moving slowly and peering around corners is usually your friend.
– Flashlights are very risky due to visibility, use sparingly.
– If you see a drone flying around you, giving away your position, shoot it to get it to go away.
– Crouching is good for sound.
– Headphones/headset is highly recommended to have for direction purposes.
– Not everyone is a cheater, there are multiple movement options (That I’m not touching on here) for higher level play.
