STURGIS, S.D. — Two motorcyclists were killed and seven others were injured across six Monday crashes reported by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Over the course of the 10-day Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the South Dakota Highway Patrol releases daily information on crashes and crime in and around the city of Sturgis.
Known as the Rally Tally, the daily release includes information on investigations conducted only by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, and does not include statistics compiled by other organizations, including the Sturgis Police Department and various county sheriff's offices in the area.
The information below includes details on crashes between 6 a.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Biker run over, killed on Nemo Road
BLACK HILLS NATIONAL FOREST — One person was killed and another remains in critical condition after a motorcyclist ran over another in the eastern Black Hills.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m. Monday, two groups of motorcycles were traveling opposite directions on Nemo Road when the driver of a 2015 Harley Davidson Breakout failed to negotiate a curve and crossed the centerline.
In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver of a 2003 Harley Davidson Electra Glide lost control of their bike and overturned, becoming separated from the bike and sliding down the road. The driver of the 2015 Harley Davidson was unable to avoid the person in the roadway, and ran the victim over.
The collision caused the driver of the 2015 Harley Davidson to also overturn.
The motorcyclist who was run over was not wearing a helmet, and died as a result of the crash. The other motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
Names of those involved have not been released pending family notification.

Motorcyclist killed at I-90 interchange near Spearfish
SPEARFISH, S.D. — One person was killed when a pickup pulled out in front of a motorcycle near Spearfish.

Shortly after 10 a.m. Monday, authorities in Lawrence County were called to the intersection of U.S. Highway 85 and Interstate 90 for a report of a two-vehicle collision.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol said a 2013 Toyota Tacoma was exiting the Interstate when it stopped at a stop sign and pulled out in front of a 2023 Harley Davidson FLHXSE. The Harley Davidson struck the Tacoma at the intersection.
The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was killed as a result of the crash. The driver of the Tacoma was uninjured.
Names of those involved have not been released pending family notification.
Region's winding roads result in four crashes, injuring six
BLACK HILLS NATIONAL FOREST — Six additional people were injured across four separate crashes on Monday, all of which occurred along one of the Black Hills’ many winding, curvy roads.
Shortly after 11 a.m., one person was separated from a 2000 Harley Davidson FLHTCI on a curve on Vanocker Canyon Road. The driver was wearing a helmet and sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported no fatal crashes between Saturday and Sunday mornings in relation to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Hours later, at about 3:30 p.m., the driver of a 2022 Harley Davidson Road Glide failed to negotiate a curve on South Dakota Highway 87. The driver lost control of the motorcycle, causing the bike to overturn and cross the centerline. Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing helmets, and both sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Shortly after 4 p.m., on U.S. Highway 16A, a motorcyclist on a 2016 Harley Davidson Touring entered the ditch after failing to negotiate a curve. A helmetless driver and a helmeted passenger both sustained minor injuries.

Finally, at approximately 5:40 p.m., a 2022 Harley Davidson FLHX entered the ditch along a curve on Old Hill City Road. The driver, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained minor injuries.
