The craziest thing is the devs knew about all of these, as there are no progression blockers. They even intended us to do these, seeing as there are these secret rooms specifically placed after them. That means there must have been a good QA team, too. These must have made test walkthroughs a breeze. Kudos to them all! 👌👍

So on my first playthrough I got lost after getting the Flash Shift. I somehow made it out of Burenia and combed all of the map trying to find where to go. During my endeavors I found the orange teleportal to Ghavoran and got the pulse radar immediately after getting the flash shift. I don't even remember how I pulled this off but the fact that I accidentally pulled off a sequence break on my first playthrough goes to show how expertly this game is crafted.

In Metroid Fusion, in the aquatic zone, there was this insane shinespark trick that allowed you to go back to the start before you were supposed to. Amazingly the devs knew this and left a message on the computer for the player to receive, basically congratulating them on achieving it. I suppose this is like an homage to that, on a whole other level.

I discovered early Scan Pulse and early Cross Bomb on my first playthrough. Having the previous Metroid games under the belt definitely makes the sequence breaks easier to spot. In fact, you can get Scan Pulse way earlier than this video even shows. As soon as you get Grapple Beam and/or Morph Ball Bomb you can get to the teleportal that's just above it.

Ok, I've been doing a hard mode playthrough with sequence breaking, and I thought there was no way to actually get Screw Attack after GS, since the frozen Artaria section appears very locked off. Mind blown.

I'm so glad that most of these don't require glitches!

Once you sequence break for the Gravity Suit, use the Speed Booster to go up the shaft to reach the elevator that'll take you to a frozen Ataria. From there you can access an early Screw Attack. Once you beat the boss guarding the lava chamber, head for the upper left corner of Dairon to get back to Ghavoran. From there, you can get the Cross Bomb early by using the Speed Booster to ascend the shaft. Then, use the Screw Attack to get early access to Hanubia, which will then take you to the top area of Ferenia. You can opt to work your way back to the Ghavoran entrance to get an early Space Jump (Cross Bomb + Speed Booster) before taking on the Storm Missile Boss, who dies in like three seconds with the Screw Attack and Space Jump.
This is my glitchless approach to speed running the game. It's very reliable if you want to beat the game in under 4 hours but still want to end up with 65% of the items before facing Raven Beak.

Each one of these Sequence Breaks can only be done at specific progress levels. You should mention when at the beginning of each section. For example when can I attempt to Sequence Break the Space Jump? And also, what cool new things does each Sequence Break allow me to do that wasn’t possible before? For example, the Morph Ball Bomb Sequence Break gives you access to Samus’ badass Kraid instakill!

This game is so well designed

I didn't even think you *could* go the long way around in frozen Artaria to get Screw Attack! That's awesome!

Ftr the route shown for Early Pulse Radar is actually the intended method. I believe the early path simply requires collecting the Varia suit and maybe grapple beam then taking the Teleportal from Cataris to Ghavoran.

That shortcut to the Gravity Suit played a hand in getting the "Under 4 hours" time. Although I kinda screwed up the first time I used it cause I didn't get the Space Jump beforehand so I had to take an alternate route back to Ghavoran. Via the orange teleportal in Cataris. Getting the Screw Attack before the Storm Missile makes beating the X that has it a cakewalk since you can neutralize the attacks it comes out with before you blow up the Core X to get the upgrade. The sequence break on the Super Missiles also played a hand in the play time factor cause it allowed me to nip a few boss fights in the bud. Didn't bother doing the sequence break for the bombs before the Kraid fight cause there was no way to backtrack to Dairon without a teleportal to save time. Luckily I found out that Kraid's classic attack of launching those projectiles from his belly can be stood on if you time a jump right. Starts with the low one, then middle, and finally upper. Timing all three jumps correctly will let you grab that Spider Magnet point without having to belt that spot on Kraid with either beams or missiles.

This is really is an iceberg of a game 🤯

I feel like the fact I didn't get any of these early or even try and just grinded through the game makes me more of a badass and I take great pride in that.

I figured you would have shown getting Pulse Radar from the Cataris teleportal tbh and also I was wondering what that path in frozen artaria was for because I got part way through it but not all the way
But I think you can also get screw attack early with bombs and space jump
There's enough time to get through the cold rooms before the entirety of Artaria freezes over etc

The early screw attack (9/10) is the most impressive. I've seen many sequence breaks but not that one. I didn't remember seeing these areas frozen, that's so new to me.

I didn’t know that screw attack sequence break, I usually space jump on the corner to get the upgrade before freezing the map and therefore skipping the experiment boss fight

09:36 EARLY SCREW ATTACK like that means you can leave the area frozen forever? it's crazy to see they took the time to create frozen versions of a huge chunk of the game most players won't ever get to see!

For the screw attack break at 9:40, you don’t necessarily have to shinespark, you can also bomb jump up the wall on the left. That’s how I did it

You can get pulse radar at the very, very beginning of the game due to the teleporter. I got it right after the morph ball

The gravity suit early is really surprising to me. I think all of that was intentional gameplay or at least semi-intentional in the sense that they didn't try very hard to stop you from delaying fall state underwater to preserve height. If you know that the morph ball shaft after that shine spark puzzle is there, then gravity suit is basically free if you're far enough to have grapple at least.

It's possible to get the early Space Jump without glitches (requires Morph Ball, Bomb, Speed Booster, and Ice Missile):
1) Get the early Cross Bomb as shown in the video.
2) Enter Ferenia from the Ghavoran transport. Go past the initial room to the next room to the right and make your way all the way to the bottom, until you see another door exiting left.
3) Open the door then charge a Shinespark heading left.
4) Without discharging the Shinespark, go into Morph Ball and with a little running start, jump towards into the vertical shaft heading down, placing a Cross Bomb mid-jump as close as possible to the ceiling along the left wall.
5) When Samus hits the ground below, activate Shinespark straight upwards and grab onto the ledge of Morph Ball tunnel that was just opened up by the Cross Bomb.
This leads you straight to the Space Jump. I usually do this right after collecting Cross Bomb, and before heading back to Burenia for the early Gravity Suit.

For early bombs you can actually ignore the damage boost and make a left in the room before it, it’ll still lead to the same place, I had to learn this the hard way on dread mode

You can get early screw attack much earlier like before the planet was frozen

Was able to do the early Supper Missiles sequence break at 3:25 on my hard difficulty run, but for some reason I can’t seem to do it on my dread difficulty run. Hopefully I’ll get it next session. Appreciate the video!

I inadvertently got space jump before screw attack, I thought that was just how the game was. Amazing

These are freaking sick. I just finished my first playthrough, and I did a sequence break that wasn't on here. I figured out the timing for chaining morphball bomb jumps, and used that technique to get to Ghavoran early with the orange teleportal and got the pulse radar before being able to explore any of Ghavoran

Metroid Dread is a rare game because every time i play it, i like it even more than the last.

you have to have: varia suit and grapple beam
find the orande portal and teleport to the scan pulse

I don't know how, but I completely skipped the pulse radar on my first playthrough. The only reason I went back to get it was because raven beak was an over-absorbent damage sponge to beat without enough missiles.

After getting the cross bomb you can go back through where you came from. You don't HAVE to do early gravity suit

I found the screw attack skip to be hilarious since you can get it without plasma beam by using bomahew skew

I really like how some of these are blatant glitches, like early Phantom Cloak, while others were absolutely intended by the developers, like early Screw Attack

I don't remember how, but I definitely got the pulse radar much earlier than the method posted here, even on my first playthrough. I do it every time, you can get to the teleporter from Dairon to Ghavoran pretty early.

First one is done through a glitch. If you need to exploit a glitch, then it's not a good sequence break.
Also, I'd rather see these done in order.

Ugh.... i rember trying the early game kraid quick kill sequence and that graphel beam was AKNOYING AS HELL!!! easy took 30+ attempts just getting through the lava room with slide jump alone

Counter hits also let you use charge beam early. Its supposed to be physical amnesia so she should still be able to do it, granted in that cutscene it makes no sense, but in the counter hits its a more instinctive thing imo so it works.

I actually got a power bomb upgrade very very early in the game like right after the first Emmi but I don’t remember how bad it was an accident. I just recognized it though the game didn’t let me use it as its “unknown”

You can also get space jump early glitchless using cross bombs and shine-spark

I have to get the cross bombs early if I want to get space jump early, because I can't break open that chasm with that glitch in the Northwest corner of Furenia for the life of me.

I sequence broke and got the nombs before I fought Kraid, and a cutscene that came later in the game, was messed up. I cant even remember how badly.

i used early phantom cloak to go further back when i only had the demo, i could fight the boss hoever the game crashed before when i aquiered the phantom cloak

Lol I don't get it... How is that early Pulse Radar? You already had Ice Missiles. That is when you're supposed to get it normally. You can actually get Ice Missiles much sooner, right after you get the Varia Suit & Grapple Beam. There's a teleporter you can reach in one of the hot rooms in Cataris that will let you get the Pulse Beam much earlier than this.

My favorite sequence break is the one where the people that made the game are credited.

the one thing i´m always wondering though ... can you get the screw attack before the spacejump though? ... because particularly these two upgrades turn samus into a near godly flying ball of death ...

That’s not early Pulse Radar, that’s just Pulse Radar. Early Pulse Radar is going in the Orange Teleportal after getting Varia and Grapple.
Also, it just seems like many of these clips should have been re-recorded or just practiced at least once, because the movement was so clunky and hard to watch…

You also messed up on the part that says how to get out. It just shows the beginning of how to get Gravity Suit early. You were supposed to show a clip of getting back into the little tube you went up to get Crossbomb early.

I did the early gravity suit one but then I tried to activate a speed boost underwater and the game crashed so I lost a lot of progress

only complaint for the video is the lack of explanation of the "how" behind each of these sequence breaks, just the "doing" of them. as a casual player, how am I supposed to know how to trigger speed boost faster, or any of the other tricks you showed off.
Yes it shows it's possible, but not how to actually replicate it.

Heh... Interesting. I've never seen that Early Morph Ball Bombs jump done that way.

The 2nd wall jump when doing the Super Missiles is INSANELY difficult. It just plain doesn't want to work unless your jump timing is absolutely perfect. The rest of the wall jumps are easy as pie, but that one jump is just so damn hard. Takes me a good 20+ tries every time and it's always that jump that messes me up. I think it has to do w you having to jump so close to the bottom of the wall, the game acts effing stupid about it. If you're too low on the wall near the bottom lip it just plain doesn't let you wall jump & that is so damn dumb. I wish they'd fix that crap cus it's a really stupid programming quirk.

I must suck super hard at this game to not even be able to get the very first pseudowave floor break to work. WTF. Over an hour into blasting the floor with NO results. WTF am I doing wrong?!?!?!

I accidentally got cross bombs early because I couldn't figure out anywhere to go.

I hate my hands, I've got arthritis pretty badly and my hands are basically always swollen so getting them to cooperate and move quick enough to do some of the shine spark puzzles is impossible for me, and it sucks because my ocd won't let me leave this part of the game until I do, which is kinda ruining my experience 😕 I'm gonna keep trying until my thumbs fall off, which speaks volumes about this games overall quality, having a blast with this game just wish my hands would cooperate

I dont see how Early Bombs are a sequence break. (I haven't played the game yet, dont get mad at me)

Has anyone ever thought about the fact that Samus already did a sequence break the second she learned how to party attacks? Like, she fires a charge beam if you get the timing right soi guess MercurySteam made that one mandatory
